Since Gillian and Katie are encouraging us toย up our indoor photoshoot game this month, I figured what better project to shoot than pajamas! ย These are the Carolyn Pajama Shorts from Closet Case Files, paired with my Grainline Studio Lark tee for aย seriously comfortable getup. ย I have never beenย pleased withย my past attempts atย indoor photos but with Katie’s tipsย I was able toย make some progress.
To take these pics, I had to push my dining room table/sewing table out of the way. ย We have a serious lack of clear walls in our small apartment so it was tricky to find the right spot. I also moved my rubber tree into the shot to add some more visual interest. ย I turned off most of my lights, but the sunlight wasn’t quite enough so I ended up having to leave one light on. ย It created quite a harsh shadow in the lower right corner of the picture so in future I will wait until there is more sunlight in my apartment if I can.
After the shoot, ย I lightened up my pictures in Photoshop and cloned out the outlet. ย I also used an unsharp mask on the whole image because the pictures were not as crisp as I wanted them. See my before and after shots below. ย You can check out Katie’s tutorial forย herย tips onย editing in Photoshop.
Now, about those shorts! ย I made these a week before Christmas, and they do have a bit of a Holiday feel to them, but they don’t actually have any Christmas-specific imagery on them which is nice. ย I made a size 16 and theyย have a good,ย relaxed fit. ย There is nothing worse than too-tight loungewear,ย amiright?
This pattern is a joy to sew and includes lots of opportunity for adding details, like the piping along the bottom bands. ย I also added piping to the pockets and finished the insides with a combination of french seams and bias binding. ย I didn’t pay too much mind to pattern matching, and there are some areas where the placement is a bit crowded, but overall it turned out fine. ย I wear these shortsย all the time and I can’t wait to make the pattern in full soon ๐
Do you have any tips for a newbie to indoor photoshoots? ย Thanks!

Fun! The piping really makes these.
Thanks, Drew! I totally agree ๐
Such a fun fabric and I agree the piping is a beautiful detail!
Thank you, Aida!
Extremely cute! And nice shorts too ๐
lol, thanks!!
Love these! What a nice job you did with the details both inside and out
Thank you so much! Doing inside details always takes a project to the next level ๐
Your pictures look great! I such at indoor photos. Love the lounge wear!
Thanks, Heather! Indoor pics are so hard, but practice makes perfect…or at least decent, lol.
I’ve been looking at shorts lately (getting ready for summer) and I love these – I know you’re wearing them for pj’s and they look fabulous with that piping and hong kong finishes! wow fancy ๐ but they would make great shorts too – maybe in a different fabric ๐
They totally would work as regular shorts! Maybe in a linen or chambray would be super cute. Something not too stiff because of the elastic waist.
I love the piping detail!
Thanks, Louisa!
