Would you like to pattern test for Helen’s Closet? I am thrilled to be ready for testers of my first apparel pattern, I need your help making sure it is up to snuff! Without further ado, I present to you the Winslow Culottes!
The Winslow Culottes are the perfect addition to your spring and summer wardrobe. They are easy to style, effortlessly chic, and can be made at any length. Instructions for shorts, just above the knee, midi-culottes, and palazzo pants are included, but you can choose any length you want and make them your own! The Winslow Culottes have a fitted waist and a very loose fit around the hips and legs. They close at the center back with an invisible zipper and feature inseam pockets and box pleats. The Winslow Culottes present the illusion of a skirt at first glance, but are noticeably pants when you are on the move. As the owner of several pairs now, I can speak to their versatility & comfort. I wear them to work as well as biking, shopping, and lounging on the weekends – the possibilities are endless!

If you are interested in testing the Winslow Culottes, here is what you need to know:
- The pattern comes in sizes 0-20
- The pattern is a printable PDF (a4 and copy shop versions will be available)
- The pattern will be provided to you free-of-charge before testing, and the final version will be provided once the pattern is released to the public.
- The pattern will be sent out on June 1st, and the deadline for feedback and photos is June 15th (2 weeks).
- You can make any version of the pattern you like.
- A Facebook group will be created so you can share your progress on the test and get feedback from other testers! This is the most fun part.

I have been wanting to make some good culottes for quite a while now — ever since I saw the Megan Nielsen ones. I love the culottes that truly look like a skirt and really dislike the ones that don’t because they are too much like the ones my mom made me wear (and I hated) in the 80s. Yours look so good and I wear a US size 16 in RTW, so hopefully they will actually go up to my size!!!
I applied to be a tester, but there wasn’t a place to put other comments and I want to say that I don’t have much experience making pants, so I’m not sure if that would make be a better or worse candidate. 🙂
Thank you! They are really fun to wear because of the skirt illusion. I know what you mean about the 80’s vibe of some of the designs I’ve seen. The fullness added by the inverted pleats takes care of that, haha. Im glad to have testers of all sewing abilities and sizes, so I’m sure you will be perfect!

Love these!! I really need to add pants to my wardrobe and these are perfect! What types of fabrics would you suggestion using? Hoping to test for you!
Thank you, Sara! This pattern is best suited to fabrics with quite a bit of drape such as rayon, crepe de chine, silk or tencel. I made the shorts version in cotton to try it out and at the shorter length the crisp-ness (is that a word?) really works. At the longer lengths you definitely want something that hangs well. In my examples above the shorts are cotton, the above the knee version is tencel twill, the midi-culottes are poly crepe de chine and the full length pants are viscose rayon. I also think a linen blend would be lovely, I am planning to test this with the midi-culottes. I’m excited to have you test!
