This is a design that I’ve had in my back pocket for a couple of years now and I’ve always wanted to make it a pattern. In fact, I am wearing an early version of Luna in our Winslow Culottes photoshoot from 2017!
I have several versions of this design in my closet and I wear them non-stop. It looks like a great summer tank (and it is), but you would be surprised how much you can wear this design all year round. I certainly do!
The Luna tank has two options for length, including a cropped view that pairs really well with high-waisted garments. Luna also features two options for finishing the arm and neck openings. Both are finished with a knit band that you can leave exposed (view A) or turn under (view B). Mix and match seam finishes and lengths to suit yourself!
Luna is a simple design with one pattern piece for both the front and back. This makes printing and cutting out Luna a breeze! The flared shape provides plenty of ease for the bust, waist, and hips. The sides of the Luna tank scoop upwards and the hem of Luna is left raw for maximum swish and swing!
We love Luna because it is effortless, comfortable, and speedy. It doesn’t require much fabric (1-2 meters depending on size) and it is so nice to have several of these in your wardrobe. Perfect for casual wear and even online meetings when paired with your fav Blackwood Cardigan or blazer!
We hope you give Luna a try – we can’t say enough good things about this little pattern and it is FREE!

That would be lovely lengthened to make a swing dress.
Great idea!
Yay!! So excited to try this pattern out. Thanks Helen!
Ya! Lovely tank top, but I cannot open the file for printing A4 size. Please help. Thanks
Thanks Sandy! Sorry to hear the file is not working for you! Can you email us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com so we can send you a new file and make sure you get printing? Thanks!
Thanks Helen…I love it!
Awesome! So happy to hear that. Happy sewing!
I would love to make this in seersucker. Would it work, since there is no stretch?
Hi Linda! Thanks. Seersucker is not a good fabric for this pattern. It is best in a knit fabric or if you do use a woven and size up, a woven with plenty of drape.
Would you only need to go up one size? As soon as I looked at the pattern pieces I thought it would be awesome in woven, something light weight and flowy… it seems really spacious.
Yes, I have tried it and one size (which is technically two sizes because of the jump sizing on this pattern) was perfect for me. You can try it on before binding the edges and bring in the side seams if needed 🙂
Very cute patterns
I am a 24/26 in the bust area (I have no breasts) and a 28/30 in the waist and hips would i need to grade up both sizes please? Thank you Helen for this wonderful pattern cant wait to make it up.
Hi Helen! I would not suggest grading in this case. Luna has a lot of ease thanks to the swingy a-line shape. Just make the size indicated by your chest measurement.
