Ashton Hack: Jumpsuit

It's the one you have been waiting for! When we started Ashton August, I promised an Ashton jumpsuit hack, and I can't think of a better way to finish off this series. This is an Ashton/Winslow pattern mashup and I am sooooooo in love with this look. I hope you like it too, and I can't wait to show you how to sew this jumpsuit!

How I made my Winslow/Ashton jumpsuit:

Many of the steps for this hack are similar to the steps for the gathered-waist dress from earlier this month. This time, it's pants!

I cut my Ashton top 2" shorter than the cropped view because I wanted the gathers to sit higher on my waist.

I also added a center back zipper so that I could get in and out of my jumpsuit. I decided to cut my back into a 'V' shape, too. You need to add seam allowance to the center back pattern piece and not cut it on the fold.

I cut my facings to match my new back 'V' shape.

Install your invisible zipper. You will only need a bodice zipper to get in and out of your Ashton. I used the same method that is outlined in this Youtube Tutorial from Style Sew Me. The process is the same even though we have a facing and not a lining.

I then cut Winslow in my size, including the inseam pockets but not including the waistband. I sewed Winslow together. Instead of the pleats, I gathered the waist.

Sew three lines of basting stitches along the top of your Winslows, making sure to leave long thread tails at the front and back and do not backstitch. Sew THREE. Trust me, it’s is worth it. One should be at 1/4″, one at 1/2″, and one at 3/4″. We are going to sew at 5/8″ and remove the 3/4″ basting stitches after.

Pull your thread tails to gather the waist. When the gathered waist matches the bodice hem, you can sew the two together and remove your basting stitches.

That's all there is to it! You can style this look with or without a belt. I hope you try making a jumpsuit or romper!
