ACCESSING PATTERN FILES
Can I give your patterns as a gift?
Yes! We are excited to offer gift cards for the sewists in your life! Find them in our shop.
I purchased a pattern but I didn’t receive the email with the download link. How can I access my pattern files?
Once you complete your purchase, your download links are emailed to you automatically. However, the email with the download link can get filtered out of some inboxes. Check your Spam, Junk, or Trash folder. Note that inbox search results may not include emails in your spam folder. If you use Gmail, the download link email may have gone to your Promotions folder or Social folder.
If you still don’t have your email with the download links, contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com so we can send you your pattern files directly.
You can also access your pattern files through your account if you have one. Log in to your account and see all past purchases and pattern files. If you have created an account and would like to connect your past purchases to it, contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com and we would be happy to help!
I purchased a pattern prior to the the updated size range (Prior to Jan 2020). Do I have to re-purchase in order to get the updated version?
No, you do not need to repurchase. Contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com and we will send you the updated version of the pattern.
I can see my orders in my account, but I’m not able to download the files. How do I access my patterns?
Please contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com and we will add any missing patterns to your account
I previously made a purchase as a guest with no account. How can I add these patterns to my new account?
If you want to add past pattern purchases made as a guest to a new account, contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com and we can add your past purchases to your current account.
I downloaded your free pattern and I can’t see all the files inside the .zip folder. How do I access them?
For our free patterns, we need to bundle the PDF files together in a single file folder called a .zip folder.
On many devices, .zip folders can be opened by simply double-clicking. You can also use a program like WinRar or 7-zip to open .zip folders. 7-zip is a free open-source option available here: 7-zip.org
If you are using an Apple device like an iPhone or iPad, you can open .zip folders by following the instructions here: Create or open ZIP files on your iPhone or iPad
If you are still running into any issues, contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com

Using PDF Patterns
How do I use a PDF pattern?
Using PDF patterns is really fun once you get the hang of it! You print the pattern at home on your home printer. You then trim and tape together the pages until you have a full pattern! Here is an article on our blog about how to assemble our patterns.
All of our patterns also include a Copy Shop version that can be printed on the large printers at an online or local Copy Shop. This method skips the step of assembling your pattern pages.
Do you offer Copy Shop files?
Yes! All of our patterns come with a Copy Shop file (A0 format). You can send this to an online Copy Shop or take it to your local Copy Shop.
Do you offer paper patterns?
We do not have plans to offer printed versions of our patterns at this time. We love the versatility of PDF, and it allows us to design freely and without physical limits on our detailed instructions, pattern pieces, and size range. If you want to avoid the step of assembling print-at-home patterns, we include a Copy Shop file (A0 format) in every pattern.
Where can I print Copy Shop Patterns?
We print our copy shop patterns at our local copy shop. You can also take them to bigger office stores that offer file printing, like Staples.
There are also lots of online printing options. We have a great blog post listing lots of options all over the world: Where to Print Large Format Sewing Patterns
Do you offer projector files?
We don’t have plans to add projector files to our patterns at this time, but please let us know if that’s something you’re interested in at support@helensclosetpatterns.com
How do I turn off the layers for the sizes I don’t want?
To use layers, you will need to open the files in Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available for free here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
Open the pattern file and open the layers panel. Click the eye icons to turn off each layer you do not need before printing.
I can see the whole pattern on my device, but when I print I only get one page with the corner of one pattern piece. What’s happening?
You may be opening and printing the copy shop version of the pattern, meant for printing the pattern on large format printers. Return to the downloads page and make sure you are using the file labelled “printathome-A4_and_letter”
When I print my pattern, the alignment triangles on the edges of the page don’t appear and/or the pattern lines don’t meet up correctly. How can I fix this?
We’ve had some folks run into this issue when printing from certain printers. When you open your print options, click on “Advanced” and then check the option to “Print as Image”.
If you are still running into issues, please contact us at support@helensclosetpatterns.com
Sizing
How do I choose the right size?
Check the pattern's size chart and finished garment size chart against your measurements.
Your measurements may fall into several sizes and we provide information in the instruction booklets on how to modify the pattern appropriately.
Don't choose based on what size you wear in ready-to-wear clothing - it may be very different than our size chart!
I’m making a pattern for someone taller/shorter than the 5’6”, will your pattern work?
Yes! Our patterns include lengthen/shorten lines to indicate where you need to add or remove height. Check out the instruction booklet for specific details on how to adjust the pattern.
TEACHING, WHOLESALE, AND GARMENT PRODUCTION
I am teaching a sewing class and I want to use one of your patterns. Is that allowed?
We are always thrilled when studios teach our designs. If you are running sewing classes or workshops and want to teach one of our patterns, please reach out over email so we can give you a special discount and invoice you in bulk to make things easier for you.
I would love to sell your patterns on my site! Do you offer digital wholesale?
We are not offering digital wholesale at this time. Thank you for your interest!
Can I use your patterns to make items/garments for sale online or at a market?
Our patterns are for home use only and are not for resale or profit. It is not our intent that our patterns are used to produce items/garments for sale. Thank you for respecting our wishes.
