I love deciding what views and options to include in my patterns. It’s a fun process determining what makes a “view” and what would be a better pattern hack or tutorial. For the Breakwater Swimsuit, I had the two views in my mind from the get-go, and it wasn’t until well into the process that I realized there is another very obvious option. You can make the two piece top with the high waisted bottoms from the one piece!

This bonus ‘view’ is very simple to make. The fabric requirements will be the same as the one piece view and all you need to do is make a separate top (view B) and high waisted bottoms (view A). You finish the top edge of the bottoms the same way you would do for the view B bottoms (with elastic).

I love how this secret third view offers the ability to make the two piece option with a little more stomach coverage. I don’t mind lower swim bottoms but I tend to gravitate towards a high waist so this feels very comfortable for me.

I used a gorgeous deep teal swim fabric from Discovery Fabrics for this version and I love how it turned out. This fabric has great stretch and recovery so it feels really strong and snug against the body. It holds the shape of the top well. This fabric is also chlorine resistant so that is great for pools!

The other nice thing about having two piece options for a swimsuit pattern is the ability to make mix-and-match suits! I thought it would be fun to use a coordinating colour for this suit so that I could pair it with my other two-piece suit from the Breakwater photoshoot. It worked out really well! All of the possible combinations of these two suits are awesome.

I hope you give Breakwater a try! I have been loving this suit so much and really enjoying having the option to wear the one piece or the two piece views. This new high-waisted bottom view is quickly becoming a favourite of mine!
