By now it is no secret that I love sewing my own swimwear and I get a lot of use out of the items I make. Sam and I love to swim and paddleboard in the lakes and rivers and the ocean. Sunstar has proved to be an excellent suit for activities, but the one thing it does not provide is much sun coverage on the shoulders and chest. Sometimes I like to wear a little extra sun protection, especially if I am paddleboarding. That’s why I decided to try our Dawson Top as a swim rash guard and it works perfectly!
For this little rashie, we used our Dawson Top in my straight size. We made the crew neck with the elbow length sleeve. I opted to crop my rashie so it would pair well with my high waisted swim bottoms. I wish we had made it slightly longer so it wouldn't ride up when I lift my arms, but I still like it. I’ll make my next one longer. If you wanted more coverage, you could make the full length body and sleeves with the mock neck view.
This fabric is a UPF protective fabric from Discovery Fabrics. I love this bright honeydew green colour! It’s nice to know that it is helping to protect my skin from the sun’s rays.
I love how this turned out! It pairs so well with my blue Sunstar Swimsuit. I hope you give Dawson a try as a swimwear piece, too!
