I’m so excited to share a recent photoshoot we did in preparation for our wedding. We wanted to do a session with our photographer before the big day so we did a little ‘engagement’ shoot. I’m putting that in quotes because we actually got engaged about 10 years ago! That moment of commitment to each other was (and still is!) enough for us. We weren’t sure if we would ever officially tie the knot, but over the past couple of years we have been talking about having a wedding and we decided it was something we really wanted to do. We are so excited to bring all of our friends and family together to celebrate.

For the location, we chose one of our favourite swimming spots in our town - Comox Lake. This gorgeous freshwater lake is the source of our drinking water and it is so beautifully clear. We come up to this beach almost every day in the summer with Emma and we swim and lounge on the rocky shore. It’s a little slice of paradise and a special place for us. We came up in the evening for this shoot and the lighting was very moody! It was cloudy and cool so we had the place to ourselves.

I AGONIZED over what to wear for this shoot. How can I possibly choose!?!? It was so hard to pick something but I finally landed on this Lawrence Dress with Ashton Sleeves hack. I adore this dress and wear it often. I thought it would photograph well because of all the texture in the gathers. I also thought it would feel great to be in something loose and flowy so that I could feel relaxed and be in the moment, not worried about how my clothing was sitting on my body.

Sam chose his red Tofino Top from this matching set. He loves all of his Tofinos but we agreed that this one makes him look extra handsome. It also complimented my dress well and we knew it would pop in the landscape. He went with jean cut off shorts because that is what he is almost always wearing. I love this look and it feels very ‘him’. It shows off his tattoos, too!

We had a great time with Karley! I struggled more than I thought I would given my experience taking photos. The thing is, I’m usually the only person in the picture! Modeling clothes is very different from capturing nice moments of us as a couple, but once we got into the rhythm of things, I felt great and we had a lot of fun. Sam was a natural, as always. He’s so photogenic!
I love these photos and I can’t wait for more gorgeous shots from our wedding day!
