Pattern Description
The Lockhart Jumpsuit and Dress is the perfect pattern for a modern jumpsuit, playful romper, cute mini dress, or even a formal evening gown! Lockhart is truly so versatile and offers a ton of options. Every view features a fitted and lined princess-seamed bodice that hugs the body. The pants are wide leg and voluminous. The skirt is a classic A-line shape. The pants and skirt are not lined. Both the jumpsuit and the dress feature anchored inseam pockets and your choice of narrow or wide shoulder straps. Lockhart has an invisible zipper at the center back and waist darts to add shaping.
Lockhart comes in sizes 0-34 (33” - 62” hip). Sizes 0-22 are drafted based on a B-cup bust and sizes 12-34 are drafted based on a D-cup bust. There is an overlap from sizes 12-22 where you can choose a B or D cup.
View Options
Lockhart offers more views than we have ever had for a pattern before! Choose between the Jumpsuit (view A) and the Dress (view B). From there, 4 length options are available for each view. You can make a mini dress or romper, a knee-length version, a midi-length number, or go all out with the full length. You also get to choose between the narrow strap or the wide strap for the shoulders. All the views have anchored inseam pockets.
With all of these options, Lockhart can be made casual or dressy. Worn on a regular day or for a special occasion. Lockhart is a pattern you will reach for again and again on your sewing journey. Got a wedding to attend? Lockhart. Backyard BBQ party? Lockhart. Kid who needs a grad dress? Lockhart. Just want to look cute and feel amazing? Lockhart!
Bonus Pattern Hacks
Not only can you make a full jumpsuit or dress, but Lockhart can also be pattern hacked to be separates! We have blog posts coming your way this week that detail how to take this pattern and split it up into a skirt, pants, and a top. All you need is a waistband piece (which we will provide)!
We are loving this design as separates. The skirt is a classic wardrobe staple, the pants are elegant, and the top is really fun and summery. Stay tuned for the hacks!
Recommended Fabric
Lockhart works best in light to medium weight woven fabrics with no stretch. Rayon/viscose challis or poplin, linen, cotton, and Tencel will work well. Structured fabric will have more dramatic volume and drapier fabrics will have more fluid movement.
From left to right in the image above we have used viscose linen noil (chartreuse), rayon challis (green), and a cotton/rayon blend (gingham).
From left to right in the image above we have used rayon challis (red), viscose linen noil (pink), and linen twill (rust).
From left to right in the image above we have used rayon satin (floral), and washed linen (pink).
Fitting and Sewing Lockhart
Lockhart features a princess-seamed paneled bodice. In order to get the fit perfect on this pattern, we do recommend making a muslin of at least the bodice. The pattern pieces are small so it is pretty quick and does not use much fabric. As always, we have loads of fitting advice in the pattern to help you make sure you get a garment you love!
Never sewn a fitted bodice before? Or inserted an invisible zipper? No worries! You can totally do this. This pattern is marked as intermediate, but If you have sewn garments before, you can tackle Lockhart! Our robust instructions will guide you through it and this pattern is a good one for branching out into more complex designs.
We hope you enjoy sewing and wearing Lockhart as much as we do! Tag us using the hashtags #LockhartJumpsuit or #LockhartDress when you finish your make.
