What is included
This expansion pack includes collar and hood options that can be used with the vest or the jacket, your choice. It also includes new shoulder/neckline pattern pieces to add to your existing Wildwood back and front pattern pieces. These are necessary in order to attach the collar or hood. The instruction booklet includes updated fabric requirements, cutting layouts, and instructions for sewing the collar or hood.
Note: This expansion is intended for use when sewing a Wildwood Jacket or Vest from start to finish, not for adding a collar/hood to a completed Wildwood.
The Hood
The Wildwood Hood is a two-piece hood that is finished on the inside with bias tape that is stitched down on one side. The hood lining is the same as the jacket lining, offering a fun place to play with a pop of colour or print.

The hood is nice and roomy and it almost has a woodland gnome shape. We think it fits the vibe of this jacket perfectly. We love how it sits on the back when it is not worn, and it looks great worn too!
The Collar
The Wildwood Collar has rounded corners and is a nice, neutral size. It can be made with both upper and under collar in the same fabric or you can play with putting your lining fabric on the undercollar like we did on our sample.
Fabric Recommendations
The recommended fabrics do not change if you are making a Wildwood with a collar or hood.
Light to mid-weight fabrics with no stretch (3-6 oz) for both the outer fabric and the lining. Cotton, flannel, linen, wool, and hemp are all good choices. Use the batting of your choice for the middle layer. If you are using cotton and polyester batting, the jacket/vest will be washable and dryable. Silk or wool batting will need to be hand washed or washed on a gentle cycle. Pre-quilted fabric is also a great option for Wildwood.

We used a cotton linen blend with a cotton block print for the lining of our pink Wildwood Jacket with the hood. We are so into how the pop of floral looks with this gorgeous rose pink colour.

For the Wildwood Vest with the collar, we used a green cotton lawn fabric that almost looks like nylon. We lined it with a fun floral cotton print. This one reminds me of those classic green & red puffy vests!
The Construction
If you have made Wildwood before, you are familiar with the overlapping seams at the sides and shoulders. We have kept the side constriction as-is, but the shoulder construction has changed for the collar and hood. A regular shoulder seam is used here to make the neckline easier to attach the collar and hood to. The expansion pack comes with new shoulder pieces that are taped on to your original pattern.

The hood and collar are finished using bias binding, just like the rest of the edges of the Wildwood Jacket and Vest. The binding is sewn around the lapel and then pivots to go around the collar and/or hood. This spot is a bit fiddly but it is a great way to level up those bias binding skills! The end result is gorgeous.
We love Wildwood
The Wildwood Jacket and Vest pattern is one of our favourites in the collection. It is so much fun to sew and we love wearing our cozy quilted layering pieces all year round. Now that this pattern has a hood and a collar we are even more smitten!

We hope you like the hood and collar expansion and we can’t wait to see more Wildwoods out there in the wild!
