Sallie & Hollyburn Mashup : An Indie Love Affair

A couple of months ago, I did a guest post on Closet Case Files about my short Sallie Dress variation. I love the way that dress turned out and I wear it all. the. time. It is a great fall dress with a jacket, warm tights, and a cozy scarf. Naturally I wanted to make another, but this time I decided to change things up a bit with a mashup! I really love the style of the Sewaholic Hollyburn, so I decided to use that as my skirt, and keep the Sallie Dress bodice. I removed the pockets from the skirt to make this an even faster sew. I’m super happy with the results, and the mashup was really easy to implement. My amazingly talented friend Kristen Mclaughlin took these shots for me in Hastings Park here in Vancouver. You can check out her photography on her website, goldenbirchphoto.com. It is hard to describe, but each dot creates a little bobble of material on the wrong side. The bobbles are soft, but they do have an interesting texture to them. Because the Sallie bodice is fully lined, the fabric bobbles are all inclosed. They are exposed on the skirt bottom. which is fine because I wear tights or leggings 8 months of the year :). Helen's Closet Sallie Dress and Hollyburn Skirt by Closet Case Files and Sewaholic Patterns Putting together the Sallie bodice was super easy the second time around. I think I got an improved v-shape on the front and back, although the back is still pulling a bit at the sides. I’m guessing this means the bodice is slightly too small? Any ideas? The fabric I’m using doesn't fray, so the exposed seams on the skirt are no big deal. I let the dress hang for 48 hours before hemming and I trimmed off some excess fabric from the bottom. Because the Hollyburn has a front and back seam and was not intended for knits, I think the fabric drooped a bit between the seams. I am super happy with my new Sallie Dress! Have you tried the Sallie yet? Do you like mixing patterns? Special thanks to Kristen for taking all of these amazing photos! We had a really fun time playing around in this idyllic fall scene by the lake, so here is a bunch of photos #sorrynotsorry.
