The last few days (and rays) of summer are here and I have one more fun summer set to share! This food-themed fabric just screamed “Sam” when I saw it and he absolutely loves it! It was the perfect choice for another fun matching set using our new summer patterns, the Tofino Top and the Ukee Shorts. Sam is a huge fan of these designs and we’ve been having a lot of fun upgrading his wardrobe with new summer fits.

I have to give credit to our awesome sample sewer Lesley for this one. Lesley has been sewing for me for a few years now and she is amazing! She sews beautiful samples for our photoshoots and helps me with sewing prototypes during pattern development. This week, she helped me make this matching set happen. I ran out of sewing time to put this one together and so I got her to take this on and she did such an amazing job. Just look at that pattern matching! Thank you, Lesley!
We used our new Tofino Top and Ukee Shorts patterns for this one. These are the mid-length shorts version of Ukee. You can see Sam’s other matching set here, and I also go into more detail about the fit adjustments I make for him because his shoulders and upper body are larger than his hips.
I am obsessed with this custom print from Blackbird. I have been sewing these cool “postage stamp” or “window pane” prints a lot this year and I love them! It’s so fun to have a bold print with lots of interesting details. It also incorporates food which is another big fabric theme of the past couple years. This one totally nails the vibe. I know Caroline and her Blackbird Fabrics design team spent a long time choosing and designing all the little details in this print. I particularly love the sardines and the oyster!
Sam is a really amazing cook and so this print feels very appropriate. We also live right by Fanny Bay, which is known for its oysters. We enjoy them often! One of our favourite pastimes is cooking and hanging out in our kitchen, playing music, and cooking while drinking wine or cocktails. This print feels like it captures that whole setting so perfectly and Sam absolutely loves it.
It is really nice to be able to make (or have made) custom clothing for Sam. He has trouble finding things that fit him well, and he also really wants more exciting, bold prints. It is so hard to find both things in ready-to-wear clothing for men. This is a one of a kind set that is truly unique and has a ton of personality. I’m so happy that he loves it so much and that we were able to design patterns that work for him!
