I’m back with another totally seasonally appropriate make to share! To be honest, I know a couple of people who wear cargo shorts year round, but that is also very much a west coast weather privilege. At any rate, I wanted to get these out there now so that they can serve as inspiration for the southern hemisphere sewists or for next spring/summer!

I’m sure you have all seen the jorts trend this year and while I was a little hesitant at first, I’m on board now. Jorts are fun and comfy and practical! What’s not to like!? I knew I wanted to try making a pair of longer Ukee Shorts in denim to replicate this trend. Ukee has cargo pockets and I opted to keep them for my jorts because I like them, but they would be easy to eliminate for a more streamlined look. I added 3” to the longest length of Ukee for these.

I also added some belt loops to the waistband so that these looked more like cut off jeans. You can see my video about this on Instagram. It’s easy to do, you just sew the belt loops into the waistband and then tack them down over top of the elastic once it is sewn in.

You don’t need to use an elastic waist pattern to make Jorts. They could be made using our Falconer Pants pattern as well. The wide leg view would make an excellent Jort. I like the lower rise on Ukee so I went with that for my version.

I am feeling this look! Sam said I looked “very Billie Eilish” which I take as extremely high praise. Her laid back, cool style is so inspiring. I’ve really been enjoying wearing looser fits lately and these jorts are the perfect addition to my collection. This t-shirt was dyed by a local artist here and I absolutely love this big sun.
