Your Blackwood Cardigans

Blackwood Cardigan It is absolutely humbling to see the hundreds of Blackwoods out there in the world now, and I never tire of getting tagged in new posts on Instagram! You can look at the #blackwoodcardigan hashtag to see so many great versions and get inspired by fabric choice, alterations, and some seriously great styling. Today I want to highlight a few of my favourite Blackwoods that I have seen out there so far! Side note: Caroline and I talked on the Love to Sew Podcast about asking permission before sharing makes from others, and I decided to adopt this practice moving forward on my blog and Instagram account. It did not take long to ask people if I could share their cardigans, and everybody said yes! I can rest assured that everyone is comfortable with me sharing their makes, and nobody gets an unwanted surprise - it's a win/win!

Another look at my Blackwood cardigan! And more notes for those who asked Don't buy this fabric, it's pretty but not very durable. Pills and stretches out, making it annoying to work with. It's a mystery knit from Dressew if you still want it anyways. Do buy this pattern though! It's quick, it's logical, it's modern and looks exactly like you hope a lightweight layering cardigan will look in the end. It took only a few hours to cut and sew it completely. I skipped the pockets because in this fabric they were a no. I also skipped all top stitching because of how it distorted the fabric. I sewed the entire thing on my serger to try and contain the fluff and handle it as little as possible. I made size medium and I'd stick with that size in future. It's not too tight in the arms which is a problem I have sometimes I want to make this again but in better quality fabric, with pockets. I don't often enjoy sewing with knits but this pattern uses hem bands and cuffs, a construction method I love, so it's enjoyable to make. I especially love the finished product. I wore it right away the day it was finished! Perfect for wearing with summer dresses in cooler weather. Looks best with a low neckline top or dress in my opinion. I'm between sizes small and medium and chose medium, and others agreed to size up if you're between sizes. Anything else, feel free to ask! Will take photos on me one day. #blackwoodcardigan #sewing #helenscloset #cardigan #isew #sewingwithknits
