The June Shorts and Pants is one of my favourite patterns! It’s quick to sew and it always gets a ton of wear. I especially love my linen June pants and shorts and my cargo pants hack. We have shared many ways to hack June over the years and we are going to share more today!

Our previous June Hacks:
In today’s post we are going to look at how to make the June pants fit looser. We are also going to show how to lengthen them to have a longer inseam for the shorts view and a full length option for the pants view.

Making June Looser
June is a great standard elastic waist pant. Not too tight, not too loose. We designed June to just skim the hips and have loose legs, but not be oversized. If you prefer your pants to fit looser or if you just want to have some variety in your June Pants fit, you can customize the wearing ease and the leg fit!

Rather than sizing up to get a looser fit, I recommend simply cutting the pants with a bit more width at the side seams. 1-1.5” (2.5-3.8 cm) is a good amount. This is what I did here on this viscose matching set. This method means you don't need to re-print, you can simply cut it a little bigger and voila! Looser fit! If you are working with a vertical stripe or you just want a looser leg, you can also straighten out the side seams from the hip down to the hem.

If you make this adjustment it is important not to forget that you will need to add the same amount to your waistband pieces! You do not need to change the pockets.

Lengthening June
We have shown lengthened June Pants before, like in this mid-rise hack and this cargo pants hack. I even made a longer version right when the pattern came out!

Longer pants and longer shorts are in style these days and it's super easy to do! You can add length at the lengthen shorten lines to maintain the hem angles. If you are straightening out the side seams like we showed above, you can simply add length to the hem. You will need to add about 4-6” (10.2-15.2 cm) to reach the floor, but it depends on your height and length preferences.
