When we are developing patterns we make samples to test out the design. We start with muslin and move on to fashion fabrics so we can see how the pattern looks in different fabrics. I love getting to test things out and *BONUS*, I get to keep the results. This vest is my first test of the new Wildwood Collar and Hood expansion pack.
The expansion pack and the original Wildwood pattern are both on sale this week! Get 25% off using the code WILDWOOD2025. Sale ends February 2, 2025.

For this vest, I made the shorter length and I opted to make the pockets about ½” (1.3 cm) larger on all sides. I really like how these slightly oversized pockets look! The collar is a little bit larger than the final design, and it sits slightly further apart at the top of the neckline. These are all the little details that get worked out when we go through testing!
I chose to use a midweight linen in the colour “pear” from Blackbird Fabrics. This is the Everyday Linen. I used a cotton block print for the lining. I LOVE how these block prints look as linings on quilted garments. They are also really lightweight so they work well for a lighter jacket or vest.
The colour on this vest is just so fun! I love how it pops but it still has an earthy tone to it. I can see myself wearing this one a lot!

PS: Do you remember when I made my frog Halloween costume last year? I had already made this vest and I was inspired by seeing it hung up next to my June cargo pants. The greens were so complimentary I immediately thought they would make a fun all-green costume. I then of course thought of a frog!
I used the Wildwood Hood pattern on its own to make the headpiece for the frog costume. It was so much fun to sew! I added in foam balls with eyes painted on and I also made fun frog hands, too.
