Pattern Description
The Falconer Pants are high-waisted woven pants with two leg shape options. View A is full length with a wide leg and view B is ankle length with a barrel leg. Both views feature a unique side panel detail with set-in side pockets. The Falconer Pants have a zipper fly closure and a curved, fitted waistband. These pants are designed with medium to heavyweight wovens in mind, such as denim, twill, and canvas. You will love the effortlessly cool fit and design details of the Falconer Pants!
Sizes: 33” - 62” hip (84 cm - 157.5 cm)
Fabric Recommendations
Medium to heavy weight woven fabric with no stretch. Bottom-weight fabrics like denim, cotton twill, canvas, and corduroy work great. Medium weight cottons or linens can also work for a lighter weight pant.
For our samples, we used bull denim, lived in cotton twill, and cotton canvas (all from Blackbird Fabrics).
The Leg Shape Options
We couldn’t decide between a wide leg and a barrel leg so we figured—why not include both!? We are so glad we did because both of these shapes are really cool and comfortable. The wide leg option is full length, but it can be easily cropped to suit your personal preferences. The barrel leg has a subtle rounded (barrel) shape through the leg, and it is a cropped ankle length.
Both of the leg shapes share the same zipper fly, waistband, and pockets. They have the same fit through the waist and hip, and are both roomy through the legs.
When printing, you only need to print the legs you wish to sew. We have created separate print files for View A and View B (for both copyshop and print at home). If you want to sew both leg options, you can print both copyshop files or use the print at home instructions on pages 9 and 10 to print only the additional leg pieces required.
The Fit
Falconer has a fitted high waist and fits close to the body from the waist to hip. The leg fit is relaxed and roomy, making these pants really comfortable to wear. If you do not fall into one size on the size chart, you can grade between sizes to get the right fit. As with all pants patterns, we recommend making a muslin to test the fit before sewing your final version.
You may be wondering how Falconer differs from our Brooks Jeans pattern. The Falconer Pants have less ease at the waist and hip and are roomier through the legs. Think fitted waist and loose legs. Brooks have a more relaxed fit at the waist and are more tapered through the thigh and lower legs.
Sewing Falconer
As always, we have included a very robust instruction booklet with this pattern so that you can feel confident while sewing Falconer. This pattern is marked as intermediate because it includes a zipper fly and pants fitting can be challenging. With that said, we guide you through everything step by step so you can totally sew Falconer if you are wanting to push yourself and make pants!
The construction of Falconer is fun because, unlike typical jeans patterns, there are no front pockets, back yoke, or back pockets to make! Once the zipper fly is sewn, the side pockets are really easy to construct and then you are simply sewing the leg panels together. This pattern comes together faster than you might think!

We are in love with this new pattern! The Falconer Pants are really comfortable and feel oh-so cool.
