Thank you for the amazing response to the Falconer Pants! I’m so glad you are as excited about this new pattern as I am. Today I want to share a pair of Falconers I made in a mid-weight linen fabric. This is a bit lighter weight then our samples but I love to try out alternative fabrics so I can share the results with you!

I made view A of the Falconer Pants for this version. View A is the full length wide leg. I chose this view for the linen because I thought the wide leg would look flowy and luxurious. You could also do the barrel leg view but keep in mind that the leg shape may not be as structured in a lighter weight fabric like linen.

This fabric is the everyday linen from Blackbird Fabrics. One of my favourite linens, this fabric feels nice and soft but is a bit heavier in weight so it can be used for jumpsuits, pants, and light jackets. I have several pieces in my wardrobe made from this linen so I felt confident it would work for Falconer.

One thing to keep in mind when sewing pants from linen is that the crotch is likely to wear out faster than pants made from denim or twill. I like to keep my scraps handy for when I need to reinforce or mend the crotch area.

I did not make any modifications for this version in linen. If you were concerned about the pants growing and getting larger throughout the day (as linen tends to do), you could size down a half or even full size. I did not size down here and they fit really well in my opinion. They feel very comfortable. They certainly do fit looser by the end of the day, and linen will always get wrinkly when worn, but I’m a fan of loose, flowy pants so it’s all good!

I specifically chose this colour because I wanted to replicate an inspiration image I used when designing Falconer. This is a pin that I found on pinterest and I was really drawn to the colour and the seam in the leg. It was fun to make a pair of my own!

This linen is pretty opaque but I did notice that in this lighter colour, my underwear can show through if I’m not wearing a colour that matches my skin tone. Darker coloured linen will likely not be as much of an issue, but this bright chartreuse is a little less forgiving.

I love how these turned out! They are really lightweight and breezy. I took them for a spin in Phoenix when I went to QuiltCon and I loved wearing them in the hot weather! I’m happy I made these before spring and summer hits here on the west coast.
