Laurie's Wildwood Vest #2

Laurie's Cropped Wildwood Vest - Helen's Closet Patterns Blog

She’s back back back again! Laurie is here to share her second Wildwood Vest with you all (see the first one here). She wanted a shorter vest so she could choose which layering piece she needed depending on the weather. She was also excited to try the pattern again, implementing everything she learned the first go-round!

Laurie selected a lightweight cotton denim for the exterior of the vest and a printed quilting cotton for the lining and binding. She wanted to work with cotton after her last version, which was made in a poly suede (for the exterior and the binding). Needless to say, that was challenging. Poly doesn’t hold a press very well so doing fiddly things like binding is really hard! She said working with the cotton on this second version was like night and day. Laurie says “Choose a cotton for your binding!

I love that she decided to go with a contrast binding and this little pebble print is so cute! From a distance, it looks just like a textured grey fabric, but up close—pebbles! Amazing. Laurie is drawn to rocks and stones and enjoys painting them, too! Check out one of her paintings below. Yes, it’s a painting—isn’t that amazing!?

Laurie did another FBA on this vest and added a dart following our two blog post tutorials below. This made the vest fit perfectly and she loves that she can close it comfortably, unlike most RTW outerwear she owns.

You’ll also notice that she overlapped the slides of the vest more at the hip than at the bust, creating a closer fit around the midsection. She likes the vest like this because it’s nice and snug and cozy. Wildwood is easy to customize to get your desired fit!

This Wildwood is the shortest view of the pattern and it’s so cute paired with jeans. I also love my version of this view—it just goes with everything!

Laurie's Elliot Sweater - Helen's Closet Patterns Blog

Laurie has layered her Wildwood over a new Elliot Sweater in a purple poly sweater knit. This sweater has become a real mainstay in her wardrobe and she said it is getting worn a ton! She lengthened the sleeves and reduced the height of the side slit so it is less drafty. Laurie has several Elliots and loves the tall collar view with the longer back. We love it, too!
