I, Helen Wilkinson of helenscloset.ca and @helens__closet, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '16. I endeavour to wear one me-made thing each day for the duration of May 2016My pledge is simple, wear one me-made thing every day. I almost always choose my me-mades over my RTW anyways, so for me, I'm hoping to get something else out of this experience - read on to find out! Let me ask you this: When you are planning to make (or buy) something, do you ever envision yourself in that garment (or pair of shoes or jewelry)? What do you envision yourself doing? Where are you? How do you imagine feeling? I was thinking about this recently and realized that my day dreams of future me wearing my me-made garments are often just that, day dreams. Not that imagining myself at a fancy party or on a tropical vacation is a bad thing, I do those things every once and a while and it is nice to get lost in a day dream. I just don't want my entire closet to get lost as well. My life is real. I work, cook, sew, garden, walk, bike, play board games and watch TV (amongst other things). Do I envision myself wearing my next creation while grocery shopping? No. With this in mind, I am going to use Me Made May to discover what outfits I actually wear most often and what I can make more of to fit my real life. I want a closet that reflects my day-to-day life, and offers options for my favorite activities. I plan to try envisioning myself at my desk working on my next project or cooking dinner with Sam. I will consider whether I can bike or go for a walk in garments, not just attend parties and stroll on the beach. One of the reasons I sew my own clothes is because I can sew for my real body, now, I just need to sew for my real life. You can follow my me-made-may on Instagram @helens__closet, and I will also post a weekly round-up on the blog. Happy Me-Made-May everybody! -Helen
