I’ve been seeing this trend lately—PJ pants and shorts as outside pants and shorts. Usually the pants/shorts look like classic men's boxer shorts with a pinstripe pattern. Naturally I thought—I could make that!
I used our June Pants and Shorts pattern and lowered the rise 3”. I would say this is a mid-rise. We have a full blog post about how to lower the rise on June here! I wanted these to have that classic PJ look so lowering the rise worked a treat.
I made a pair of shorts first, just to check that I liked the adjusted rise before I cut out the pants. I skipped the pockets so these came together SO fast. I used some leftover crinkle cotton from a past project. I really like them and I can see myself reaching for these a lot in the summer months. They are the perfect lightweight PJ shorts! I’ve paired them here with a RTW t-shirt I got on a recent trip to Ucluelet. The colour is a perfect match!
Once I was happy with the fit, I cut out a pair of PJ pants in a nice pinstripe cotton from Blackbird Fabrics. This fabric screams classic PJs so I knew it would work well for this look. If you want to take this trend even further you can add a faux-fly front and some buttons to complete the look.
The final result is super cute and comfy! I know I will wear these around the house but the jury is still out on whether I will venture outdoors in them. In my small city (~60k people), there aren’t a lot of places where I could wear these where people wouldn’t just assume I was wearing PJs, but I’m also fine with that!
I’d like to make another pair with this rise but in a different fabric that I might be more likely to wear out. Maybe a nice washed linen? I’ll add it to the list!
