I was very excited when Oris from Breathe Live Explore reached out to me and asked if I wanted to try out their new printed fabrics. I love Oris’s design aesthetic and BLE is a Vancouver based business so how could I resist!? Here is a Lawrence Dress that I sewed up in their beautiful printed cotton called “Petal Parade”.
BLE did not have any expectation that I would promote the fabric, they were just passing it along as a gift that I could use if I wanted to. All opinions expressed in this article are my genuine thoughts about this fabric.
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this fabric! Sometimes printed cotton can be a bit stiff and I was expecting something similar to a quilting cotton. Turns out this fabric has a great drape and is buttery soft. It felt like it had already been washed and broken-in even before I pre-washed it and it only got softer with washing! The colours are really fun and saturated and the prints are soooo pretty. These are great for garment sewing because they are bold and large scale.
Because the fabric was so soft and drapey, I immediately thought of the Lawrence Dress. I love this dress in cotton and this fabric was a perfect fit. I knew the bodice would show off the print well, and it would also look awesome gathered up into the tiers. I am really pleased with the final dress!
This Lawrence is ultra comfortable, to the point that it almost feels like a nightgown. I think the pale pink colour is also contributing to this feeling. I can totally see myself wearing this around the house year round - you know I love a good house dress!
Thank you to Oris at Breathe Live Explore for this fabric. I would recommend this for garment sewing, especially for making shirts and dresses. It presses and sews beautifully and is lovely and soft to wear.
