Me-Made Vacation: Seattle

Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Last week, Sam and I decided to take a small trip down to Seattle for a few days before he started his new job. Seattle is only a few hours from Vancouver so it’s really convenient for a quick getaway. We both love visiting the states, everyone is so friendly and exploring new cities is always a blast. Be warned, the post contains a bajillion photos, apologies in advance. I decided to bring only me-made outfits for the trip, with the exception of a couple staples like leggings and a cardigan (man, I really need to make some of those!). It was a fun challenge and I had a great time wearing all my makes. I only really took pictures on days 2 and 3 so unfortunately I don’t have shots of every outfit, but here is a packing list to give you an idea: Romper by Helen's Closet Unicorn Culottes by Helen's Closet Lark Tee by Helen's Closet Sallie Dress by Helen's Closet Helen's Closet Sewaholic Minoru Jacket Alder Shirtdress by Helen's Closet Day 1 - Romper w/leggings Day 2 - Unicorn Culottes, Lark Tee, Minoru Jacket Day 3 - Alder Shirtdress, Minoru Jacket Day 4 - Sallie Dress We stayed at a lovely Airbnb in Wallingford, North Seattle. Wallingford is a great neighborhood with lots of good restaurants, cool older houses, and nice places to walk. We spent our entire first day wandering around; our first stop was Gasworks Park. The Vintage Mall is definitely worth checking out - two huge floors of amazing things, all excellently displayed and organized. The park has a zoo, a rose garden, several sports fields and a giant lake! It was a lovely walk around the lake, watching the rowers and drinking apple cider :) Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet On day two we started off our day by visiting the Seattle Art Museum, which is called the SAM, so naturally we had to go! We saw their Intimate Impressions exhibit and it was really wonderful. The light in some of the paintings was so captivating, and I love how different impressionist works look from far away and from up close. After the SAM, we wandered over to Pike Place Market for lunch. This place is a dream for photographers, with all it’s colourful neon signs, gorgeous flower arrangements and bustling seafood market. We saw the guys throwing fish, and I got a really funny photo of sam making a grump face that I am super smitten with. I love the sense of panic, it almost makes you have to pee just looking at them! Seattle Adventure by Helen's Closet After lunch we went to check out the cheese making place and ate some of their delicious free samples before heading next door to the bakery for macarons and cappuccinos. It was a beautiful sunny day for an afternoon of exploring. If you are in Seattle, you should definitely go check this out! Two floors of pinball tables, both old and new, and you can play them all as much as you like for 13 bucks! It certainly takes the stress out of the game when you're not as concerned about losing the ball. They also have the ‘world's largest pinball table’, which may or may not be true but in any case it was fun to give it a whirl. Seattle Adventure by Helen's ClosetSeattle Adventure by Helen's Closet On our last evening, we went to go see a show at the Neptune Theatre. It was The Darkness, best known for their 2003 hit, I Believe In a Thing Called Love. The lead singer of this band is endlessly entertaining to watch on stage, I was nearly in tears laughing at his antics all night. I missed Rose (my sewing machine) while I was away, but it was also nice to take a break. I’m excited to share my latest make with you next week though! Stay tuned :) -Helen
