I’m back with a new pair of Falconer Pants to share with you this week! I’ve been loving seeing versions of this pattern popping up in the sewing community, it’s one of the best parts of being a pattern designer. Keep on sharing!

This is a little mini-hack for the Falconer Pants. I got a couple of questions during the launch about the possibility of adding back pockets to the pants. I was also curious about this so I decided to give it a go!

This is the wide leg view of Falconer (view A), and I have eliminated the side pockets in favour of back pockets. Unfortunately, there is not enough room to have both the side and back pocket. As you can see, the back pocket extends onto the side pants panel. I think this little overlap looks really cute!

I drafted these pockets the size I wanted for my pants, and I went with a squared pocket for simplicity. My finished pocket size is 7” (17.8 cm) square and I sewed a size 20. You could also use a back pants pocket from another pattern (like our Arden Pants or Brooks Jeans patterns, for example).

To get the perfect pocket placement, I recommend waiting until the end to pin and sew these on. That way you know they will be in the perfect place for you!

I made this pair in railroad denim from Blackbird Fabrics. I really like how the edges of the denim almost look like diagonal stripes along some of the shaped edges (like the waistband). I’ve paired these pants with a rayon Ashton Top with flutter sleeves from our Ashton Top expansion. These Falconer Pants are super comfy and nice and neutral. Definitely a win!
