I made a shirt! And I love it! You know when you finish a project and you just want to shout from the rooftops? This is one of those projects! I made a button up shirt in mid weight linen using our Spindrift Jacket pattern and I absolutely love it!

The Spindrift Jacket has an oversized fit with dropped shoulders and a good amount of volume through the hips. It features a bunch of pocket options so you can make different styles of jackets. I used the pattern as-is and simply left of the pocket details to make this button up shirt!

For this hack, I sewed the front, back, yoke, and sleeves as is. I did the sleeve plackets, cuffs, and collar. I left off the pockets and the back hem tabs. It’s easy peasy! I love this oversized button up shirt look, especially when paired with our new Falconer Pants pattern.

I chose a midweight linen from Blackbird for this fabric. This is the everyday linen and it is 7oz in weight. I know I can wear this colour with so many of my outfits and it will get softer with every wash and wear!

Styling this oversized button up is really fun! It makes a great layering piece but it also works well as a standalone shirt. I like to tuck it in halfway or all the way in the front. You can also leave it loose for a really artsy vibe. I prefer it with the sleeves rolled up but I like that I can roll them down if I wear it as a lightweight jacket. I’ve paired it layered with our Lockhart Top hack!

I highly recommend checking out Spindrift as a shirt pattern. I will certainly be making more and I would love to try this as a shirtdress for summer, too!
