Every summer I pretty much live in my June Shorts! It’s either June Shorts with a Reynolds Top, or a flowy summer dress! It’s hard to reach for anything else when elasticated shorts are an option. I love having lots of different colours so getting dressed is a breeze. I recently made two new pairs of June Shorts and I’m excited to share!

For these Junes, I used some of our recent hack options to customize the fit! I wanted these two new versions to fit a little looser and also to be a little longer in the inseam. You can see details for how to make these changes in this adjustments post here. It is so easy to customize June to suit your preferences and your current style. I lengthened my Junes 2" so the finished inseam is 5" instead of 3".

I used two linens for this project, both from Blackbird Fabrics. A lovely soft washed gingham that you may recognize from my Ashton Dress hack. I also used an Everyday linen that I had leftover from my Falconer elastic waist hack. It was great to use up what was left of these two fabrics to make these shorts!

Aside from lengthening the inseam and cutting these a little bit bigger at the side seams, I made no changes to these shorts. I love how the pocket is constructed on June. I like that it is completely hidden so you can use a scrap fabric for the pocket bag if you want. The pockets are anchored into the waist seam so they are nice and stable and comfy to put your hands in.

I opted for the drawstring and topstitched waistband on both of these versions. I like how this finishes off the shorts and gives them a professional look. I batch cut and sewed these shorts back to back so it felt very productive and I am so glad to have two new pairs of my favourite summer shorts! They only take about an hour to sew so I can whip them up super fast.
